Taxi Time

When taking taxis, we have made it a practice to talk to the drivers.  Not only is it the friendly thing to do, we also have learned many things about the culture from them.  We tend to ask a lot of questions and usually begin by asking if the driver was born here in Arequipa.  The conversation slowly gets steered to matters of faith and religion.  We often ask questions like “Is your faith important to you?” or “What do you believe is really important in your life?”
Since they spend almost 80 hours a week in their car, Jason began to wonder if they might be interested in listening to something more productive than just the music on the radio.  So lately we have been asking another question, “If you could listen to the Bible while you worked, would you do it?” The resounding answer has been “Yes!”  One driver, who happened to be Christian, was very excited about the idea.  He suggested that Jason come and speak to ALL of the drivers for his company.

Most taxi companies have a mandatory driver meeting every three months.  He thought it would be “very good” to have his co-workers hear about the Bible and to be encouraged in their lives.  “However”, he said “you would need to get permission from the supervisors”.   Well, two weeks later, after getting into a taxi, we noticed that the driver’s vest said “Supervisor”.   J  Jason ended up getting the name of the head manager of the company.  We are now seeking authorization to speak at the next meeting and to make available audio scripture for the drivers.  This company alone has nearly 2,000 drivers.  Please be in prayer with us that we receive permission to speak with the drivers and make God’s Word available to them.  Our goal is to have a Peruvian come along and speak as well.  Please pray that the Lord will reveal who this person ought to be.

    1. Thanks Tricia. We are pretty excited about it too. Sometimes being different or the "alien in a strange land" can have it's advantages. :-)
